This week I installed Excel 2016 on my iMac. Not Excel 2016 for Mac (I’ve had that installed for months), but Excel for Windows. I’ve got it running on Windows 10 in a virtual machine, running in VMWare Fusion.

Everything was fine until I tried to insert a 3D Map (Power Map). Up popped a message telling me that my video driver may not support DirectX. Thankfully, a little bit of web research and the answer was found…

  • Shutdown the VM
  • Select Virtual Machine > Settings
  • Click on Display
  • Uncheck the option “Accelerate 3D Graphics”
  • Restart the VM
