I recently received the following query from a customer…

“When I enter some text or a number, in fact anything, into a cell and press Enter, the cursor moves down to the next cell. This is really annoying. Can I disable it?”

The answer is that yes you can. It’s done via the Options and the exact steps are dependent on the version of Excel. Here’s how to do it in Excel 2013:

Select File > Options

cursor_moves_down_on_enter

Click Advanced on the left hand side

Remove the tick from the first option – After pressing Enter move selection

Click OK
