Following last week’s video where I showed how to create a Top 10 Singles Chart Tracker, I was contacted by a viewer, Stephan, who wanted to know how to display the little symbols that indicate whether a song has moved up the chart or down the chart or stayed in the same position since last week.

The good news is that it can be done fairly easily in Excel, using Conditional Formatting icon sets, and that’s what this week’s video is all about.

You’ll learn…

  • How to create a formula to show the difference between last week’s chart position and this week’s chart position for each song
  • How to amend the formula to avoid the error generated where a song wasn’t in last week’s Singles Chart
  • How to configure the Directional Icon Sets to display the correct symbols
  • How to hide the numbers generated by the formulas (column A above)

You don’t want to track the Top 10 Singles? No problem. This functionality has a wide variety of use cases. Watch the video and see if you can apply the concept to your own spreadsheets.
